Vellies were originally designed to withstand the harshest arid climates, here at Jim Green we have taken no short cuts in production, to make sure our vellies live up to this age-old design.
We truly believe that the Jim Green vellie is the best value for money vellie available in South Africa. With the quality of materials used and our ability to resole them they will be with you for many years to come.

Product Care

The best way to preserve your Jim Greens is through regular and correct polishing. Water, heat and wear remove the natural oil from the leather, so when the tiny fibres dry out they become hard, brittle and break easily, thereby shorten the life of the leather.
For our leather boots we recommend any natural shoe polish found at your local store. For our suede options we suggest light brushing to remove dirt and a scotchguard for longer protection.
After a long day in wet conditions and you requiring your boots early the next morning, the worst possible solution is to artificially dry your boots. Leather fibres burn easily – especially when wet and therefore should never be left near a heater, placed in your oven or left in direct sunlight. For the best results, footwear should be dried out slowly and never subjected to any extreme heat. Should you work in constantly wet conditions, it is best to alternate between two or more pairs of our Jim Green boots.

We realise that buying footwear online is a daunting task and we are often asked to recommend a size by new Jim Green customers. If you happen to purchase a pair of Jim Green boots online and they do not fit, we will happily exchange them for you. If the measurements fall in-between the lengths provided, we do offer half sizes on certain styles. We can recommend a size but we can’t guarantee the fit.

    I love them, right out of the box fit great.
    I’m usually a 12-13 wide or extra wide and I got the 12 1/2 and they fit perfect!

    These are going to be my go to for many years. I will be buying the razorbacks soon!

    What a bargain!! Super comfortable true to size (added Dr scholls insert under original insole to take up some space for my narrow 12.5 foot)

    Breakin is pretty quick and the quality of construction is unmatched at this price!
    Bought all four colors in this style and they were of all the same top quality of build!!

    I’ve had these for nearly two months. I also have the suede version. At first I was a little concerned because they got bumpy salt stains despite my applying Obenauf’s to them before walking around in my soggy Pacific Northwestern yard. Well, the bumps and white stuff went away (mostly) with further polishing and they’ve developed a lovely patina. I love these shoes. They’re comfortable. They actually follow the contour of my foot. As for the footbeds; I think they’re fine. I think that unless one has a genuine podriatic problem, wearing cushy high-arch supports is not wise. The muscles in the foot need to not be allowed to atrophy. The footbeds in these are sufficient. I’ve recently ordered the Razorbacks and am excited for their arrival. Thanks again.

    Great shoes! Comfortable, durable and stylish. I appreciate the wider fit, which I think is a better fit to an actual human foot- not pointy as in so many other designs. I feel stable and well balanced. Happy to have something that will last and last.

    These were the second pair of shoes that I purchased from Jim Green. I wear them mostly as a casual shoe. I’ve put a lot of miles on them and the soles are showing little to no signs of wear. I would highly recommend these.

    I thought I had reviewed this boot before but perhaps that review was lost when the website was rebuilt.

    What I had to say was something along these lines:
    I received my ‘vellies’, Veldskoen, from Jim Green Footwear in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in June 2020. At that time you could buy the Jim Green Vellie in Full Grain Suede Leather at Amazon but the Tanned Leather that I wanted was available only from South Africa. An email from the company representative that I had been dealing with to get these boots said “You are proudly the first person to receive the Tan leather vellie option in the US.”

    Beyond having bragging rights, they look and feel great and were about 70% the price of the popular Clark Desert Boot which is a copy of the original Veldskoens. I’ll be wearing them for a few hours each day for the next few days before going on walkabout in them.

    For the most part I have been wearing them as my casual shoes. Not putting many miles on them and they have worn very well. I expect them to perhaps outlive me.

    A great ‘desert boot’ from a very good company.

    First pair of chukka style boots and I couldn’t be happier. The craftsmanship and leather quality are incredible. The sole is deceptively grippy and the wide toe box is also a very nice addition. Will be buying other styles very soon!

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES ARE EASY!

 

Locate your order number and ship-to zip code.
This info is in your order confirmation email, on your shipping label, and on your packing slip.

This will take you to the returns/exchange portal. Just follow the prompts.
You'll be able to choose what you'd like to do and get a USPS return label.

Print up the USPS return label you've just created and give the package to your postal carrier.

 

EXCHANGES AND RETURNS - FREE RETURN LABEL

The fastest and easiest way to get the correct size, color or style is to place a new order. The cost to return your order is on us!

Create a prepaid return label (using the #2 button above)

If you are just wanting to return your order then please follow the same steps.

Your original order must then be sent back to our depot in their unworn condition with their original box and inserts within 60 days of their delivery.

Once received at the depot your order will then be refunded by a credit to your original method of payment, provided all the above criteria is met.

Once received all refunds will be processed within 10 business days.

REFUNDS

  • All refunds will be credited back to the original form of payment.
  • If you paid with a Gift Card, your refund will be issued back to that gift card.
