Product Care

To keep your Jim Green boots in top condition, regular and proper care is essential. Water, heat, and daily wear strip the leather of its natural oils, causing the tiny fibers to dry out, harden, and become brittle—ultimately shortening the lifespan of your boots.

Leather Care

For our full-grain leather boots, we recommend using a high-quality natural shoe polish or leather conditioner available at your local store. Conditioning your boots periodically helps restore moisture, maintain suppleness, and prevent cracks. For deeper nourishment, apply a leather balm or oil, especially if your boots are frequently exposed to wet or dry conditions. Always clean off dirt and dust before polishing to ensure maximum absorption and a smooth finish.

For our suede options, use a soft-bristle brush to gently remove dirt and restore the nap. Applying a suede protector adds an extra layer of resistance against moisture and stains. Avoid using oil-based products on suede, as they can alter its texture and appearance.

Proper Drying Techniques

After a long day in wet conditions, it’s crucial to dry your boots properly—never use direct heat sources such as heaters, ovens, or direct sunlight, as leather fibers burn easily when wet, leading to permanent damage. Instead:

  • Remove the insoles and loosen the laces to increase airflow.
  • Stuff the boots with newspaper or a dry cloth to help absorb moisture. Replace them as they become damp.
  • Place your boots in a well-ventilated, shaded area at room temperature to dry naturally.
  • If additional drying is needed, a boot dryer with low heat and good air circulation is a safe option.

For those who work in consistently wet environments, we recommend alternating between two or more pairs of Jim Green boots to allow each pair ample drying time, extending their lifespan.

By following these care and drying techniques, your Jim Greens will remain durable, comfortable, and ready for any adventure.
