With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.
Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.

- Manufactured with a double layer of leather (2.2mm Nubuck leather, lined with 1.6mm calf leather).
- Double layer of leather aids in the boots’ water-resistant properties (not waterproof).
- 8-inch height for excellent support, comfort, and protection.
- Thermoplastic toe puff and a heel stiffener for extra support.
- A steel shank between the insole board and sole offers extra support and stability.
- Insole board is secured to the upper with a double-stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord.
- Sole is made from genuine rubber.
- Can be resoled.
- Due to the double layer of leather, the AR8 can tackle all kinds of terrain, making it ideal for the outdoor worker or hiker requiring that extra bit of toughness.
- JG last – This last has a 3E wide fit and offers a snugger feel all around with a flatter toe box.
- Sole: OR (This sole is designed for a combination of grip, comfort, and speed. It is genuine rubber and of a softer feel to provide comfort underfoot).

I’ve been looking for an 8 inch boot and have been looking at Jim Green boots for about a year now. I purchased the African Ranger in Buffalo and it has quickly become my everyday boot. After revisiting the website and seeing the AR8 for $149 I immediately pulled the trigger. I’ve only wore it once so far, but that was to the zoo and was able to walk comfortably for several hours and put about 3 miles in. I have no qualms in wearing these all day, and they look great with jeans. Can’t wait to see how these look and feel once completely broken in. I own boots from Wolverine, Red Wing, Franks and Nicks, and the two pairs of Jim Green’s I have are the most comfortable right out of the box. I did replace the insole in both with a cork insole, and while the original insole wasn’t uncomfortable, putting a nice insole in did make a noticeable difference and at least for me, was a big improvement.

Wore them for the first time today, walked over 5 miles taking my daughter car shopping. Wow what a boot. Great job yall. I did have to stop a few times and tighten the laces on both boots as the tongue was breaking in. The stock photos of the Fudge color do not do it justice. Killer boot. I got them on sale and it was a steal.

I ordered three pairs and none of them fit my foot. I know my size, ordered that first, then went bigger, then bigger again, which was too big. There was no Goldilocks middle solution. Cramped or loose. I couldn’t return one pair because I got the tiniest of marks on the toe. I had to take the shoes to a cobbler who sewed a small pad in the heel. This made them not clunk. The boots are decent otherwise. Broke in fairly quickly. Pliable and sturdy. I’ve never had fit issues like this with any other brand ever. They were kind enough with my returns, but this was extremely inconvenient and took precious time out of my workweek, plus weeks of using my busted boots, ruining a few pairs of hemp socks, before I could start wearing my Greens. Won’t order again, but hey, if they fit your feet, go for it.
