The Boot that Puts Boots onto Rangers
50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.
With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.
Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.
We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all-round Ranger Boot. From that, we give you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers.
Follow our journey through our social channels or contact us for further information.

It is my very first pair of Jim Green, and I couldn’t be more happy about them. I took advantage of the winter sale and paid $159 for this awesome boot. It’s got such a utilitarian charm, and everything about it is purposeful. I absolutely love the leather too, and it is basically a Chromexcel leather from S. Africa. It will age and patina really nicely overtime. I have been wearing them around the house for a week now, and the ankle cuffs are finally softening up a bit more. They will eat into your ankles at first, but eventually, like all things, once broken into, they’ll fit you and you alone. I highly recommend anyone to take the winter sale for granted and get your Veg Re-Tan AR, or even the Numzaan. This will not be my last pair of Jim Green. I’ve been following Rose Anvil’s channel since 2019, and have been curious about the brand since then. I really love the fact that they donate a pair of African Ranger boot to the Rangers for every 10 pairs sold, that’s a great and noble program!

Got my first pair of ARs after reading a ton of reviews and watching the great videos. The leather is very sturdy and has that nice glazed look from the website images. I wanted a leather that would age well and not get discolored and beat up looking like some of the nubucks. The Oringo sole is surprisingly comfortable right off the box, and the tapering of the sole where the shoe bends makes the shoe instantly flexible. Something in between a sneaker and a traditional boot. The only break in needed is the ankle cuff: it is quite stiff and causing some blistering, but I know that should soften up over time. None of my boots have ever been wide enough for me, and my Superfeet wide insoles actually fit, just barely. Having more space for my toes to spread out is such a relief. However, even with khakis or raw denim, these do look rather clownish from the top down. I think the STC last toe is quite bulbous and the way that the sole is generously cut makes it look that much wider. The last is never going to allow for a dressier look, but I can get used to the look. Most importantly, my feet aren’t cramped anymore. All in all, a great deal at the sale price at $159!
