Introducing the New “Chief” to our Range – The Numzaan Boot.
We’ve listened to our customers and are thrilled to bring you the Numzaan boot—crafted with the Jim Green touch for top quality, comfort, and formality on every occasion.
Derived from the Zulu word “Numzaan,” meaning the head of a family or a leader, we proudly present the Numzaan boot as the distinguished “Chief” in our collection. Inspired by our Baobab boot, it projects a heritage feel and features our new Veg Tan leather, making it our most stylish boot to date.
You may want to sit down for this one as on as there a lot specs to run through for this one. The Numzaan boot boasts a double lasted upper (2.2mm lined with 1.2mm calkf skin) this is then finished off with a genuine toe cap, making this boot sport over 5mm of leather around the toes. The Heel and toe area is also reinforced with thermoplastic toe puffs for added support. This is paired with an ankle-high lace-up system and bellows tongue. The unique facing pattern allows for less lace pressure for those days when the boots need some added tightening. Our ASHM last allows for a “fashion” look while still accommodating a wider foot. The good news doesn’t stop there, we’ve gone the extra mile and incorporated a leather lasting board, leather midsole and a resin runner (a total of over 8mm of leather) that will gradually mold to the shape of your feet. All of this comes together with the innovative Frog Grip sole, marking a new stride forward in the Jim Green range.

Just received my new Numzaan boots, shipped straight from Africa, with the lug sole. Classic appeal with the thick natural veg tanned leather. Can’t wait to break them in.
Fit is perfect at 1/2 size up from my brannock size. I love them. Thanks again Jim Green!!🔥

Undeniably an unmatched value for a gorgeous design.
But I think the boot still needs work, and I returned mine with sadness in my heart.
Lug sole: Too soft, to the point that I’m not only certain I could tear chunks off during a hike, and I can wiggle the boot around while standing on it. I’m an avid hiker and really wanted the old-school explorer boot look, but I feel that for me this outsole could be legitimately dangerous and unstable.
Tongue/lacing area: I think the pattern needs a little work here. The inner and outer layers of leather end where the tongue gusset folds, leaving a stack of leather that is just counter-productive to trying to get a good tight cinch on the laces. This will break in over time, but I question how much. The built-in kiltie also doesn’t want to stay under the upper, and there’s no tongue loop, so it loves to be crooked.
Finish: The leather I received was spotless, great cuts of leather. My left welt at the heel was fairly severely chewed up in the production process though.
Overall it’s a gorgeous boot for a very good price. They’re heavy, and I wouldn’t recommend them as a hiker, but as a fashion or work boot I can’t name a better value. It is by all means a higher-end boot for low-mid pricing as far as real boots go.

I wanted to love these. The leather is fantastic for the price. The frog sole is great. However, I had to return these due to the tongue/lacing area. Even buying the correct sized boot, you cannot tie the boot around the ankle/calf – there’s a constantly a two finger gap between boot and ankle/calf. I’m sure this will break in some, but not enough to overcome the excess material. This is a lace up, not a Chelsea boot.

Have finally decided to get a pair of these boots for looking snazzy and the occasional job around the house, and I’m extremely pleased. Just for transparency the only shoes I’ve worn for the past 7 years are barefoot shoes. The Numzaan boots are incredibly comfortable with a softer feel underfoot than what I expected. I don’t have a Brannoc around out here in the sticks so I measured my foot and went along with the chart provided by Jim Green on this site and the fit is exactly as perscribed ,”snug but not painful”. My only complaint is my pinky toe is a little crammed in, but nothing unbareable. A earlier review said the fit is loose around the ankles and this is true but I think its more of a benefit because it allows me to move more freely than it would if it was tight, which is huge cause my boys love to start an impromtu game of catch or tag when I’m working outside and I need to be able to run. The leather is a shade darker than what’s pictured which makes it even more attractive if that was possible, cause these boots are gorgeous.

Firstly I want to say these boots are great and beautiful nothing that I’m going to say is a nock against these boots just things that one should be aware before buying these boot. I got these in the frog grip sole option while perfectly grippy and comfortable on concrete, side hill rocks and grass. I would consider the heel lift area .25 of an inch too long while not a bad thing it does give the boots a unique flex point in relation with my heal. Second this is qualities that are unique to the veg retan leather as well as the double last construction. These boots are incredibly stiff and took me a few weeks to break in, also the leather does not absorb oil too much and mostly took oil in around the stitches. However these qualities also provide a ton of ankle support. I have a pair of AR8 customs that are double lasted but they are in the full gain brown and those boots have the exact opposite qualities of this leather.
These are wonderful boots if you want a beautiful pair of boots for around town and semi formal dress boots for a more industrial setting. Also I’ve seen some comparisons of this boot to the Red Wing Iron Ranger, these boots blow the Red Wings out of the water.
