The Boot that Puts Boots onto Rangers

50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.

With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.

Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.

We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all-round Ranger Boot. From that, we give you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers.

Follow our journey through our social channels or contact us for further information.

I bought these for duty use. I’ve always been dissatisfied with the quality of “tactical boots” that’s out there. So I decided to try something a little different and have been waiting for an excuse to buy a Jim Green. These by far are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The leather quality is top notch compared to anything near its price. I caught the bug and will be buying a lot more boots from them.

  2. First name Moe last name lester

    i like these.

Ordered a pair of black African Ranger boots on Thursday, reactivated them on Monday ….. in Norway. Well done.
Unpacked the boots, tried them on for size.
Soft leather, size ok, will work nicely with my uniform at work.
Re-packed them, will receive them “officially” on my birthday in 2,5 weeks.
Looking forward to put them on and start using them.
Now I have to get a pair for myself, maybe I’ll try the bearfoot model next…..

    PS:
    Jim Green have 3 stores.
    -Amazon has a reduced inventory
-jimgrearfootwear.com is for US customers only
-jimgrearfootwear.co.za is for the rest of the world…. This store does not appear in a google search.

You won’t get anything better than a Jim Green for this price range. It’s an excellently constructed boot. I give it 5 stars for the quality it contains at the price of 2023 $160 it reached (inflation may make it higher in the future). However, it’s not the be-all-end-all boot for my needs… It is not waterproof out the gate and it doesn’t wear out in an attractive way. I’ll need something a bit more sleek to mesh well with my HVAC trade of roaming the squishy wet ground of Florida USA while being presentable for sales in the house. The wide toebox and square front has given me comments about it already which means it must be *very* distracting to my customers!

Wish I found these boots sooner and they are
incredible fitting boot and incredible quality. This boot fit me perfectly. I wish I can give it more stars absolutely love. It will be buying more boots soon.

I have had mine for a month. I primarily use mine in the city and wear them to the office. I think they look pretty sharp with a high polish on the toes and heels. They do not look like dress shoes ;-p I changed the insole, and there is still plenty of room for my toes. I like that I can wear them all day, and my feet still feel pretty good.

I’m a size 10 1/2 wide, so I’m so habitually use to buying boots and shoes in size 11’s; big mistake when I ordered this boot.
I had to send it back for an exchange recently.
So if you’re 10 1/2 wide like me, their 10 1/2 will fit you just fine

Just ordered my second pair of African Rangers in black. Love my original pair in fudge. Wide toe boxes make it very comfortable on foot. My fudge colored ones are breaking in real nice and getting their own unique patina to them. Only downside I can think of about the black ones is that my pair was missing the Jim Green frog imprint on the back of the boots.

This is my fourth pair of Jim Green’s. I got this pair for work which requires all black footwear. I find them to be some of the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned and go back to them quickly when I wear something else. I want to acknowledge how efficient and attentive they were when UPS lost my order. I was contacted by Gareth Crouch himself to resolve the issue- how about that! Awesome boots, I’ve recommended Jim Green to countless friends.

I bought a pair of these African Ranger boots after watching a review on youtube (Rose Anvil) and have to say I am impressed.

For the price of a pair of disposable Brit boots made in a communist country in Asia you get boots with a real sole and steel shank, good leather, and quality workmanship, and you can re-sole them. Care for them and they will last a long time. Worth the money.

Break in is longer than the “boots” made by sneaker companies, but once they have formed to your feet you are golden! If you have not done this before you may want to break them in every other day to give your feet a chance to recover.

You will want to do the Boy Scout trick of using a thick boot sock and a thin liner sock for comfort. (Or just a thin athletic sock against your skin and a thick fluffy sock over that.) Lock your heel in with a snug lace up and you are good.

As a side note I have noticed that these boots force me to slow down and walk at a more natural pace, and I am more stable wearing these than I am in soft athletic shoes.

I said all that to say this; If you are thinking about getting a pair, just do it!

While I am not African nor a ranger, I can say I am very tough on my shoes. I can wear a pair of shoes out in 3 weeks… and these things look and are doing great!

The stitching is outstanding with little to no loose thread and all stitching has held up well! The double stitch-down construction is extremely durable (much to my surprise) and also comfortable (not standing on the folded vamp). The Insole while a bit firm is great for providing stability, especially in softer terrain like dirt or grass. The outsole gives a lot of comfort, allowing all day wear and reducing the soreness from the stiffer insole. The eyelets are strong and you won’t ever have to worry about ripping out the speed hooks as they are just as sturdy as the eyelets. The tongue is fully gusseted, and along with the stitch down construction, nothing unwanted gets inside the boot.

The only issue I’ve had with the boot is the laces could actually be tied too tightly, which isn’t an issue commonly found on boots, although, kind of a non issue as I learned to tie them a bit looser.

If you are looking for a boot to use for anything from outdoor relaxing to camping, this is your boot. Not to mention it looks cool!
