With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.
Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.
We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all-round Ranger Boot. From that, we give you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers.

- The boot is designed with 3 main focus areas: Comfort and Durability while at an Affordable price.
- The wedge sole is designed to grip while the softer rubber compound keeps the Ranger quiet when walking through the African bush.
- Toe, Heel and Eyelet areas are manufactured with a double layer of 2.2mm full grain leather for added durability.
- Heel and Toe stiffeners for added durability, support, and protection.
- Soft leather collar and tongue for comfort and weight reduction.
- A steel shank between the insole board and sole offers extra support and stability.
- Heavy duty hooks and eyelets to secure feet.
- Insole is secured to the upper with a double stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord.
- Can be resoled – Stitch down construction.
- Last: STC (This is a wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box).

I want to love these boots, and wish I could give them fives stars. They are built very well, leather feels and looks great, and plenty of room in the toe box. However, I’ve had them for about 2 weeks now and my main problem with them is that they are starting to rub the back of my heal wrong. I ordered my size and they fit everywhere else on my foot fine. No real need to break in. The inside of the shoe in the back is the rough side of the leather, and I think there is just enough movement to rub the back of my heal.
I’ve seen some other reviews that say they had to size down a half size. So maybe that’s what I need to do. Regardless my recommendation to the company would be maybe put some sort of liner in the back so it’s just not the rough leather in the back. Not sure what that would look like, but since I can’t send mine back I’m going to putting something back there to smooth it out. I do plan on giving them another try in the future and I’ll start out with getting a half size smaller.

These are the best boots I will ever return!!!
The good: These are absolutely amazing boots. They well-made, perfectly crisp leather on the wide toe box and heel, soft leather on the tongue, great value for handmade boot, and absolutely look Like something I could wear to church or through a pile of cow manure.
The bad: My foot sloshed around the toe box. The leather was rigid, and we need a lot of break-in to be comfortable. These are heavy shoes.
Why are five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review?
To wide: In all fairness, I have wide feet and tend to order a size bigger than what I need. If I had ordered the right length, my foot would’ve fit perfectly fine.
To ridged: I bought these shoes for an upcoming trip and did not have time to break them in. I wish I had the time because once they’re broken in, i can see these will last a lifetime due to its amazing construction.
To heavy: These are heavy for shoes, but their boots. As boot go, perfectly fine. In fact,
Conclusion to my five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review: Although I am returning these boots, I am buying the exact same style in their barefoot offering. Hopefully a half size smaller will fit me better, the leather is softer, and the flat soul will be lighter. I love the fact that the mid high boots have a tongue that goes all the way to the top increasing their water resistant ability. Trying on the boots that don’t fit made me realize how much I wanted one of these that do!!!

It was quite hard to get them in Europe but i am loving every second with them.
They feel sturdy yet very comfortable. 5 out of 5 stars and will try to buy more Jim Green boots if I can find them here.

just got my first pair of Jim Green ! i am surprised at the quality of that boot at that price range! it feels very sturdy, well made yet super comfortable right out of the box!
i just went out for a long walk of about an hour or so and it doesn’t feel like any break in is really needed, despite the fact that the leather is fairly thick and the boot itself is kinda hefty in a good way. construction and stitching seems top notch, and that leather is simply very nice! highly recommended!!

Best boots I have ever put on my feet. So comfortable right out of the box and even though I did not buy the barefoot edition, the toe box and flexibility of these boots is ample enough for me as a minimalist shoe wearer who also needs a little support for a clubbed foot. I will be buying Jim green boots exclusively for these reasons. Love the boots and cant wait to buy the chelsea boots ya’ll sell!

These boots are exactly what I was looking for. I mostly wear vans, but still like to wear boots in the fall/ winter. These boots feel like something in between a skate shoe and a work boot. I love wedge sole boots and these are the perfect hight for light work and walking. I wear a 9 USA in vans. The 8 1/2 USA fit me perfectly. I would love to see Jim green come out with a wedge sole moc toe boot!
