A celebration of 30 years of Boot Making

We wanted to create something unique, something with added comfort, and something for everyone, while still keeping our Jim Green touch.

The Baobab Boot is inspired by the functional appeal of our two best sellers, the Razorback and African Ranger. The durable single piece vamp from our Razorback combines with the lace-up system of our African Ranger, to give you a combination like no other that will hold up on any adventure and withstand daily wear.

We combine this with a more narrow last, although don’t let the look fool you, as this fit still caters for those with a wider foot. The good news doesn’t end there: we have added in a leather lasting board that will gradually take to the shape of your feet and add that extra comfort and durability as time goes on. This combines with a Mini Lug and moulded EVA sole combination, taking the comfort of this boot to another level while still offering the ruggedness of a rubber sole.

Just like the ancient Baobab Trees of Africa, that have stood for thousands of years, we see this boot cementing its roots onto our range and becoming another legend of the range.

  • Leather lasting board.
  • Last: ASHM – This is standard width (for those with wide feet or wearing thick socks, we suggest going a half size up from your normal Jim Green size).
  • Manufactured with a double layer of leather (2.2mm full grain leather, lined with 1.6mm calf leather).
  • Double layer of leather aids in the boots’ water-resistant properties (not waterproof).
  • Thermoplastic toe puff and a heel stiffener for extra support.
  • Midsole is secured to the upper with a double-stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord.
  • A steel shank between the insole board and sole offers extra support and stability.
  • Sole is made from genuine rubber and combines with moulded EVA for added comfort.
  • Stitchdown construction – Can be resoled.

Work on a ranch farm and use boots 10 hr/day 6 days a week . I am in my 70’s and needed a boot that can take on anything construction, mechanics ,hiking , hunting, quad riding, gardening, and dealing with animals. measured a 12 D+ width on brannock scale and ordered a 12 which fit perfectly. Have about 80 hrs on the Boots which seem to be heavy duty and in all resects. My only complaint is they not that comfortable, I put in a 1/16 in thick insert in which helped with comfort alot. I believe Jim Green should have a proprietary insert for that boot for more comfort. With and insert I would rate it 4/5 stars with-out 3/5 stars.

This is my 2nd Jim Green Boot, and I actually just received my Baobabs last week and I’ve been wearing them non-stop. There’s barely no break-in, it’s comfortable right out of the box. Compared to my other pairs of boots, this is quickly becoming my favorite. Feels even more comfortable than my broken in iron rangers.
Sizing is accurate. I measure an 8D in the Brannock device, I went true to size (8D) with the Baobabs and the fit amazing. Just enough space for comfort, but not too big that it feels sloppy. The last is slightly narrower than the ARs, but still feels just as generous without giving “clown shoe” vibes.
Boots is also built like a tank. Jim Green says this is a semi-hiker, but it feels like it’s tough enough to take on anything. Hopefully the soles work well once winter comes.
Definitely worth it, a happy customer here.

These boots have been a wonderful find that even my boot expert brother was unaware of. I hike 3 plus miles a day in the great state of Texas and these boots are awesome on the rough wood trails and gravel that surrounds my housing complex. I look forward to wearing them everyday now. I ordered a size 11 because of my wide feet. But found putting a thin insole helps because the boots are wide enough not to need an E size width. They look great and I am looking forward to purchasing other Jim Green boots for the future.

Super quality boots for the price. I appreciate the blown rubber section of the outsole because it makes these a way more comfortable boot, almost like a wedge sole. Also the mini lug has been just enough traction to get around in Montana. The stitching is emasculate and the leather insole was a little rough on the break in, but once broken in it’s awesome. I ended up buying some chap wax because of rain snow and mud, which darkened the leather, but honestly I really like the look. Also they fit perfectly true to size.

After getting a pair of ranger boots, which are now my daily drivers, I picked up a pair of these off of eBay. Maybe they were worn three times?

The leather midsole makes them 100% more comfortable than my rangers. After a few partial days breaking the in they are like hiking boot version of Birkenstocks. Honestly my pair of Birks tool longer to feel comfortable.

I’m planning on Sno-sealing these and using them to replace my two decade old Raichles, which have been my go-to boots for most of my adult life. I am not sure if they will be as water tight but they will be a hell of a lot lighter, for sure.

I love the roughout lining as it really locks your foot in, though it does make them slightly harder to get on your feet.

Sizing is very true to size. I have worn 11’s in every non work boot and sneaker for twenty years and these fit almost perfectly.

Mine came with no insole at all and still feel great.I’ve ordered s 2mm veg tanned insole to add to the leather sandwich and to make the more snug for after they fully break in and stretch out

    The perfect boot
The sole gives traction when ever I need it and is comfy in concrete and rocky terrain. The leather looks great and is very durable and the tongue keeps everything out. The leather insole has been shaping well to my foot. Jim green has made a great versatile boot for really anyone.

This is my first pair of JG’s and I am super impressed.

Beautiful design, the perfect blend of utility and casual style. The leather is very high quality and the lining is like butter. Seemed to be no corners cut in construction.

Fit is right on per JG sizing instructions. Fit perfect and generously wide enough for no crowding. Break in required but after a couple good days of walking your set. No discomfort or hot spots.

Very classy boot for those that like to get a little dirty now and then! No doubt it would hold up well in the outdoors long term. Still dust off and have a night on the town!

And regards to all the craftsmen/women, keep up the great work and be proud of the fine footwear you produce.

Thank you, now I need to pick out my next pair of JG boots!

Just got my pair of Baobabs delivered today and I have to say, wow. They are some very high quality boots….and I own a few pairs of American made Red Wings and Danners for work. These are right up there (maybe even better) than those brands. Obviously they need breaking in for the leather to conform to my feet but they are extremely comfortable with great shock absorbing quality’s when walking around on hard surfaces. I have the Rangers in Nubuck and Buffalo and love both those. Gonna be selling some of my other boots off as I won’t be wearing them as much anymore. If you’re on the fence about getting these….do it! They are a slimmer fit than the rangers but still give plenty of room in the toe box. Again, the quality and attention to detail punches above their price class. Keep up the good work!

3rd pair of Jim’s and the ones I was most excited for. The fit, the feel, the quality, it’s all there in classic Jim Green fashion. Beautiful boots that you can tell will last for years to come. Super happy as always. Highly recommend.

Just got my pair and wore them half a day at work. Definitely want to take your time breaking in like most high quality boots. Fantastic support for up and down a ladder all day. I wear a ten In Clarks, Docs,Wolverine, Truman and also these Jim Greens. I wore these JG with full cushioned darn tough socks and was happy with the fit. Beautiful design, color and weight. I love how the tongue is gusseted in as well. JG recommended a size for me and they were spot on. Also, answered quickly to shipping questions about the preorder. A++ performance.

Got a pair of these in the other day and am very pleased with them. Typical excellent Jim Green value – nicely made, good leather, at a great price. I really like the leather lasting board upgrade. I’m an 11 US on the Brannock device, somewhere between an E and EE width. My Jim Green Stockmans in 11.5 are just a little too big in length, so I went with an 11.5 US in this boot. With thin socks, the fit is very snug and nice, which is what I want. If I was going to wear these with thick socks, I’d definitely want a size 12 US. This last is more narrow than typical Jim Green lasts, so they are more “almond” shaped than the typical round shape of other Jim Green shoes like the Stockman. For sure, they are more narrow than the Stockman, but not uncomfortably so. Some people say than the wider Jim Green lasts are too round and this new slimmer last may make those people happy. After about 5 miles of break-in, they are quite comfortable but still have some break-in left to go before they are perfect. I treated mine with my usual beewax weatherproofing mix, and they turned an absolutely wonderful chocolate brown color that I think looks very smart. Very happy with my purchase.
