The Boot that Puts Boots onto Rangers

50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.

With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.

Inadequate gear for rangers leads to low morale and affects rangers’ wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks.

We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all-round Ranger Boot. From that, we give you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers.

Follow our journey through our social channels or contact us for further information.

After a few years with the original African Ranger I was excited when Jim Green offered a work version of the boot. After a week the tight spots went away and are now a pleasure to wear. I spend 12 hours a day standing on hard surfaces, bending and walking. Initially the size 10 made me think the boot would be too loose compared to the 9 1/2 I wear in the original AR boot. Perfect fit with the 10. Even with the added lining they do not feel tight. Generous room in the toe box without feeling loose. The certifications also help. Great boot.

I bought these for work and they are the best feeling work boot I’ve ever worn.
The tyre wedge sole is very sturdy, with incredible traction, with enough tread to last many moons. They self clean nicely, I expected them to hold dirt and mud, but they really don’t. They feel very solid climbing ladders, and are comfortable all day long.
The quality of the construction is excellent, they fit my feet perfectly, and break-in was minimal. They were pretty good out of the box, but over the fist week of wearing them 10-16 hours a day, I had a bit of fatigue, but not too bad. The second week there was very little fatigue, and the start of the third week they feel great.
For 20+ years I’ve been prone to turning my ankles, but haven’t turned an ankle one time while wearing these boots.
I can’t figure out why the insoles get a bad wrap, they take a week or two of break-in before they feel great, but they are great! They have just a bit of foam rubber under a piece of leather, that feels like it will hold up very nicely, and once they start to break-in, they take the shape of your feet, and make the fit of the boot excellent. If I wear out the insoles I would buy an exact replacement from Jim Green. I’m going to order a pair for my old Thorogood boots.
If these boots hold up as well as they look like they will, Jim Green will have a customer for years to come.
