I just got them, so I haven’t properly broken them in yet, but so far I’m loving the new AnatomX last. They’re the first barefoot boot or shoe I’ve owned where I actually have enough space for my toes even with toe spacers and still have room to spare. The build quality of the leather is amazing, and I can’t wait to see how they patina and break in over time.

The only negative thing I can say is that the padding around the ankle is very tight. I’m hoping it softens and loosens up as they break in.

Please continue to expand the product offering with the new AnatomX last especially the moc toe boots.

Ahhhhh. Yes. I’ve been barefoot/minimalist since 2009 and have a narrow heel/EEEE forefoot. I run/hike/snowshoe Rocky Mountian trails year round and the steep, rocky all weather conditions require hearty footwear. I jumped at the original BFAR/BFAT, and they are plenty hearty but too narrow in the forefoot. These AtomiX are perfect. Similar in fit to SoftStars’ Primal, but hearty, with a gusseted tongue (water resistant) and no stupid wool lining. Size up for heavy wool socks.

I really wasn’t sure at first, the fit and look were much different than what I’m used to with boots I’ve worn previously. After a few days of wearing these, I’m totally sold. They’re nice and wide, just like I need for my daily wear. The original Barefoot Rangers were still a bit too narrow to me but they were so high quality I wore them to death anyways. I even put up with the numb pinky toes for 2 years before I thought it was time for a change. THANK YOU for making these AnatomX line, they have all the quality I love about Jim Green and now plenty of room to let the dogs loose. It’s been heavily snowing and very icy where I live right now and these treads are insanely grippy. So much traction. They’re definitely heavier duty than the Rose Anvil so, be aware they’re not as soft and flexy, but that is exactly what I needed out of a work boot. It’s still flexible enough for some ground feel and freedom of movement, but sturdy enough it doesn’t hurt to stand on a shovel all day. I got the Bronco Brown, so I will acknowledge the one caveat: the ankle was a rough break in process. With the leather being sturdier, the ankle was quite stiff and uncomfortable for a few days, it’s wearing in nicely now, but it was rough to start. I can see these breaking in well eventually, but be aware they have a much longer break in period than the softer leathers they have. I can’t say it enough, thank you Jim Green for making the barefoot work boot I’ve been waiting years for!

    Sizing:
If you know your Brannock size, these are dead on. I went half a size up, and I didn’t really need to. My size is 12 4E and I have plenty of room in the toe box, even with toe spreaders. Because I sized up they are a little long, so I have to live with that, but these are incredible out of the box.
    Fit:
The sole feels nice and the collar will take some breaking in, and I have no regrets. If you are especially sensitive to it you’ll notice the slight rise in the heel from the extra leather, but I think that will compress and be a non issue. There is some inconsistency in the leather thickness, but they had the insight to put that thinner leather as the tongue so it works really well. The sole is still flexible and you can feel a lot, yet still feel protected like boots should.
    Function:
I like how the collar hugs my ankle, so even when I’m wearing short socks, or none at all, I won’t have to worry about anything getting in. The Africa outsole has given me well enough grip on the snow, mud, and ice we have had lately, and it also sheds the elements better than the Bruins I was wearing. Crouching, duck walking, the quick run across the parking lot have all been unhampered in these boots. I think I’m a Jim Green convert!

Got mine the other day and have been breaking them in. But I really like this version of the barefoot ranger, the toe box is nice and wide, my toes have lots of room to spread out, but I don’t feel like they are too wide where my feet are swimming in them. The bronco brown leather is some of their stiffer leather but these even with only a few days of wear, feel really nice, they felt nice immediately. The new sole is also very nice as well. Love them!
