The Barefoot Trooper Boot: Comfort Meets Rugged Durability

Introducing the new Barefoot Trooper boot, a collaboration between Jim Green Footwear and Rose Anvil. A newly designed boot that combines the natural movement and comfort of barefoot footwear with the added support, protection, and versatility needed for demanding outdoor activities. This collaboration not only brings together the history of Jim Green and knowledge of Rose Anvil but also the traditions of American and South African boot-making techniques.

The Barefoot African Trooper boot combines the natural comfort of barefoot-style footwear with the durability essential for everyday tasks in challenging environments. Its sturdy design and high ankle support provide necessary protection, while the flexible sole and spacious toe box allow your feet to move naturally and comfortably.

The flexible sole mimics the natural movement of your foot, providing a new level of comfort and freedom, while the thin soles improve the natural ground feel, giving you better traction and control. The spacious toe box ensures that your toes can spread out naturally, reducing discomfort and allowing for better stability.

The praise: These boots are so comfortable that it defies logic. After 9-10 hours on my feet at work when I get home, I forget to take them off. I plan on replacing all my shoes with these boots.
The picky: the upper is not quite straight. The edges are not finished like a dress shoe. The rubber sole edge is not chamfered. The leather is not polished or lustrous from the factory.
The one “fault”: the heel slipped a little too much initially, after two weeks the upper was so broken-in that this slippage had completely stopped.
The Conclusion: condition them, buff them to taste, wear them everyday. God I love these boots. For the price they are untouchable. They are more comfortable than my broken-in Redwings at double the price.

Amazing boot, I just hate that I have to cut my tongue down to a certain point to even get my foot in the boots. The gusset comes all the way to the top and I could not get my foot into the boot even tho once I did they have been amazing and I wear them every day since, the leather is amazing. I have the OG african rangers and went with the same size and it worked out. Cut a start for the annoying gusset but Jim Green doesnt miss.

    Extremely good boots.

To test them out, the boots went straight from the box to my feet for a three hour hike through old growth forest in the Pacific Northwest. A temperate rainforest, in old growth, near a river, during an ‘atmospheric river’ rainfall. Basically exactly the wrong conditions these boots were built for.

    They held up. Easily.

The boots are not waterproof. But my socks were only partially damp, and I was wading above my ankles since the trails had flooded over. The outsole’s grip was shockingly good: I tried it out on bare rock, steep muddy hillside, and wooden stairs, and didn’t slip at all. The trooper build holds the ankles fairly snug while giving a lot of play at the middle and plenty of space to use your toes as you walk. It’s definitely the thickest barefoot shoe I’ve ever worn, but that isn’t a bad thing. You can feel the contours of the ground, but don’t look at a gravel path as if someone had paved your path with caltrops.

Not the kind of boots to drive a shovel or kick a tire iron. But for the other 99% of life, these are a very good choice for your feet.

Wow, just wow. I used to wear thorogoods, danners for my line of work which would land around 100mi+ of walking on cement. I recently switched over to barefoot shoes because of the hot spots I would get on my feet from working 12+ hr days. That has solved the issue, but when I saw these I knew I wanted to try to them. And to be fair they are amazing, the thickness of the leather, the protection, the speedlaces etc. All amazing, the only thing I found is the toe box is too circular, very clown like. But with my vivobarefoots, they’re more angular. And because of the circular toe box I feel like pinky toe hitting hard against the walls of the of boot. And it saddens me to say, I know this will cause me foot pain in long hours of work, so I have to return them. Granted, I have very wide feet. People always tell me they’re like integrated flippers for water lol. But if these boots fit you, I know damn well they will last and be rugged and reliable.
